Projects
Hedayat Centre worked with the community to identify various project within the community that needed attention. Following consultations with the trustees of Hedayat Centre and general members of the community, a discussion was made to approach different organisations within our community to establish projects that would need urgent attention. Hedayat Centre approached various professionals who were willing to provide their services on a voluntary basis. The Centre also approached financial donors who were very generous with their donations. Without the financial support and the help of the volunteers who gave their time and expertise freely in order to achieve a desirable outcome and to provide a stimulating environment to help and encourage children to prosper, this project might not succeeded. One of the top priority project which was identified was the local community school.
Community School Refurbishment
Hedayat Centre held a meeting which involved the head teacher, teachers, as well as the maintenance manager and the caretaker. Initially, Upon visiting the local community school it was noticed that the school was in need of urgent attention regarding the renovation, decoration, and upgrading of various facilities. Inspections by various professionals were under taken to determine the priority and the urgency of the various projects to be undertaken.
The professionals informed us that the most urgent matters that needed attention were the electrical installation system, the heating system including the boiler, upgrading and creating additional toilets and shower facilities, painting and decorating the classrooms as well as communal areas including the corridors.
Furthermore, the services of an artist was utilised to create a more stimulating environment to encourage a more productive learning experience. The artist suggested creating a collection of paintings/murals using bright colours and happy scenes to help children prosper and enjoy the learning experience.
Decoration & Artworks
Many of the classrooms, corridors and halls were in a poor state of decoration. All the nursery and primary school classrooms were painted using coordinated and bright pastille colours to create a more stimulating learning environment. The nursery and primary teachers were consulted and their views were taken into considerations in relation to the colour scheme that were used. Many of the radiators were in a poor state of disrepair, as a result these radiators were sanded down and painted in bright gloss white paint.
After consulting with the artist, it was decided to create large-scale painting and murals covering different themes and subjects from the solar system and other topics to create a more interesting environment to help children learn and prosper developmentally and educationally. The artist was asked to commission large-scale murals for the library using books and computer imagery to inspire the children in their learning adventures covering different subjects such as science, engineering and humanities, etc. Similarly, large-scale murals covering different aspects and areas of science were commissioned and created by the artist for the lab to encourage children to be more curious about scientific learning and discovery.
Electrical & Heating Systems
An inspection of the electrical installation and wiring highlighted urgent remedial action that was needed to ensure that the electrical installation was in full compliance with electrical and health and safety regulations. A complete overhaul of the electrical wiring including replacing distribution board were undertaken in the primary school to ensure it was a safe environment for the children. Many of the sockets and the lighting systems were upgraded and relocated as necessary. An inspection of the fire-alarm system highlighted some areas that needed urgent attention. These areas included change of the battery of the system and also some of the fire points were replaced and action was taken about the error massages in the control board as necessary.
A qualified heating engineer was asked to conduct an investigations and to assessed the various components of the heating system. Among the recommendations made by the heating engineer were the replacement of the boiler system, the pump and the timer as well as maintenance work such as bleeding the radiators was carried out to ensure the heating system functioned efficiently and safely.

Toilets & Shower
An inspection of the toilet facilities indicated that there were not adequate toilet cubicles and further more the facilities were shared by boys and girls in the primary school. As a result it was decided to separate the facilities for boys and girls and to increase the number of units so that there were enough cubicles for the children to use.
Initially there were three toilet cubicles that were shared by boys and girls. To expand the toilet facilities, the space was divided into two separate sections. In each section partition walls were put up and each section contained four cubicles, three hand wash basins, hygienic surfaces, mirrors and a hand drier was added in each section. Furthermore, to ensure the facilities were hygienic and easy to clean, the cubicles as well as all the internal walls were tiled from the floor to the ceiling. The toilet facilities were also painted and decorated.
There was adequate space in the hall which was used to create a designated disable toilet facility as well as a shower unit which would be used by children after any sport events.
